Description

Three years after the Dragon Friends secured a narrow, costly victory against a resurrected Strahd von Zarovich, a handsome man steps off a gangplank to meet an old friend. Instead, he is met by a dire situation and an enigmatic message of hope for the city of Waterdeep; BANKNOTE LIVES.

Synopsis

Three years after the.. (see Description).. Baston steps (actually flips) off the gangplank of the Feather Sail into Waterdeep, seeing some tattered graffiti that reads "BANKNOTE LIVES". A group of six guards pass by, accompanied by a palanquin and a man bound with a sack over his head. The leader of the group of guards - the town adjudicator - stands up on a platform and announces that the bound man has been found guilty of treachery. At that moment, he hears a soft whistle near to him and turns to see, hiding behind some crates, Bobby Pancakes and Gribbits. Baston reveals to Bobby that he has recieved a note from Philge telling him to meet her in Daggerford (resulting in an argument as to why Baston is in Waterdeep rather than Daggerford). Meanwhile, the adjudicator on the platform announces that the bound prisoner is to be hanged for sedition, places the noose around their neck and takes the sack off their head revealing Janos Meer. Bobby attempts to shoot a crossbow bolt at the rope holding the noose, but does not manage to break it; Baston attempts to rush forward and flip and throw a knife at the rope, but fumbles the flip and throws the knife wildly, while Gribbits attempts to sneak towards the stage. Two guards engage Baston, wounding him.

Bobby attempts to rush onto the stage as well to grab hold of Janos to take the weight from the noose; Baston uses his new Monk ability Step Of The Wind to jump up to the stage as the guards and the adjudicator attack and wound Gribbits. Bobby casts his new Bard spell, Earth Tremor, making the entire stage shake and causing 3 of the guards to fall off into the crowd, while Baston cuts the rope on the noose and the three Friends attempt to flee towards a nearby alley, with Gribbits being seriously wounded by the guards' daggers as he flees. Janos points out a manhole entrance to the Beggar's Court underneath a haycart, and the Friends carry him into it.

After attempting to come up with several new names for Bobby Pancakes, Janos leads them into the basement of abandoned inn, and informs that that it's a safe house for a cell of "the Resistance", and that they will help them if they mention Janos's name and the password, "Banknote Lives". Janos and Gribbits leave, and Bobby talks about how upset Philge was when he left. Baston explains that he now follows "the way of the eleven" - "a hotness higher than ten" - which is a search for inner beauty. Heading upstairs into the abandoned tavern, they see a small figure in a cloak nursing a glass of milk. After reading the password to him, he reveals himself as Bobson Dugnutt, and explains that after the explosion in the Deadlands he was sent through multiple dimensions and has arrived here. He welcomes them to "Cell 17", and tells them that they have a "celeb-adjacent" person in the cell - Lionshield Banknote.

Bobson explains that "Banknote Lives" refers to Lionshield's father, Greatheart; Lionshield has no particular special role in the Resistance, but has taken over his father's distillery business; while Greatheart was a key figure in the founding of the Resistance, but has now disappeared.
