I’ve killed three men today.

— Polly Waddle, “Absolutely Doneso” (DF2 1.02)

Polly Waddle is a ducklin rogue from the Land of Spring, and one of the Heroes of Yearth. Her parents are Wayne and Wilma Waddle, and she has a sister named Rachel. She has seventeen children aged between zero and 16 or 17, including Darren, the eldest; her second-youngest, Donny; and a newly-laid egg (with feet).

Polly has a very homespun, kindly attitude, but this doesn’t stop her from being a ruthless and violent fighter as she rediscovers herself after the end of her marriage.

Before the Solstice Games[]

Polly escaped her home swamp, “Mud Venice”, by marrying Brendan Fowler, a slick duck with a pompadour, giving up her career as a rogue and moving to a “very nice” marsh to raise children with him. Years later, her relationship with Brendan broke down. (He may have been having an affair with a swan; Polly later claims he “went out to buy lily pads” and never came back.) She moved back into her Mum Wilma’s shack with her ducklings.

One night her father Wayne invited her to visit him, and revealed he’d pulled some strings to be the swamp’s Champion for the upcoming Solstice Games in Frostopolis. Wayne asked her to do “one last job”, leaving with him that night to be his Squire in the Games, and using the opportunity to pick some wealthy pockets and make some money to keep her family comfortable. Polly agreed, leaving her kids in the care of Wilma, Wilma’s boyfriend Jerry Webman, and Wayne’s henchman and Polly’s old schoolmate, Honk Beakly.

Polly and Wayne caught up as they travelled in the family boat, The Puddle Steamer. As they neared the Ironside Mountains, Wayne spotted a merchant caravan travelling by road alongside the canal, and Polly agreed to follow his lead and steal from them. They snuck up on the merchants’ camp, but were spotted by the caravan guards - who wore masks and had “emo hair” - who attacked them and yelled something about “the power of Celestia”. After one of them wounds Polly, Wayne killed all six of them. Polly was upset, but joined in the attack and the looting afterwards, taking 83 gold pieces and some black robes and masks matching those worn by the guards. They then continued on to the ice lift and reached Frostopolis.

Season 1[]

Polly attends the Solstice Games in Frostopolis as Wayne’s squire, where Wayne uses the Blades of Grass in the ceremony. When Celestia emerges, Polly fights and kills the guards possessed by the goddess alongside Sunbelt. She is upset by her father’s apparent death, and goes with the other heroes of Yearth to Dinner’s apartment. She takes out some of her grief on the emo cultists who follow Lexicon the Magnificent there, including torturing one for information using her beak.

After Lexicon sends them all to Nilmeyer’s cabin, she is relieved to hear from Nilmeyer that Wayne is not dead but imprisoned. When Celestia possesses Nilmeyer during his scrying spell to locate the ancient weapons, she tries to bluff Celestia that they are on her side, but it doesn’t work. She flees from Celestia through the portal Nilmeyer creates, ending up in the jungle.
