Description[]

Their disguises yet again in tatters and face to face with their former steward in a giant robot crab, The Dragon Friends are forced into a deadly battle in the great hall of Daggerford Castle.

Synopsis[]

With Isabelle LeCroix's Antimagic Field having dispelled the Friends' disguises, LeCroix Pamplemousse immediately attack them using the Banknote Apparatus. Lionshield Banknote pulls out the rocket launcher he was provided by the quartermaster in The Stussy Sign and fires at the Apparatus; Bobby uses his moontouched shortsword to create moonlight to turn him into a werewolf and attempts to jump onto the Apparatus, but stumbles and crashes to the floor at its feet. LeCroix drives the apparatus over to the stage and uses the claws to grab Lionshield. Baston successfully jumps onto the Apparatus behind LeCroix and attempts to wrestle LeCroix out of the cockpit, but LeCroix drives him back with a dagger. Dorian, the vampiric child, slashes at Philge with his claws, driving her into a rage and inspiring her to kneecap him using Thunder's Wake.

Lionshield manages to wriggle out of the Apparatus' claw and flees up the stage to jump onto some set boxes. Bobby recovers, rushes over to the Apparatus and yanks Baston and LeCroix out of the Apparatus causing all three of them to land in a heap on the floor with Baston frantically clinging on to LeCroix while repeatedly headbutting him. Dorian stumbles on his shattered knees attempting to attack Philge and misses, but Philge notices that Dorian's knees are rapidly healing themselves. She attempts to charge past Dorian to attack Isabelle, but his vampiric strength surprises her and he knocks her away. Lionshield rushes forward to jump into the now-unattended Apparatus and laughs maniacally as he begins to drive it across the stage, splintering it as he does. Bobby dives forward and bites at LeCroix's throat, leaving his life saved only by his extravagant cravat. Baston takes advantage of the distraction to cut down a chandelier on the stage, riding the supporting flyline upwards to kick Isabelle in the head, causing her antimagic field to drop; as the chandelier falls, LeCroix and Bobby roll out of the way, becoming separated in the process.

Banknote pulls out his rocket launcher again and attempts to use Lock On Burst, a Rare-rated modification from a homebrewed Rocket Launcher on a D&D Wiki; Dave wearily allows this after an Intelligence roll on the grounds that Banknote could have modified the launcher. He fires a burst of three rockets at LeCroix, killing him in a way that seems decidedly out of genre, but accidentally catching Bobby in the explosion and causing the jury-rigged launcher to explode in his hands. Philge, now nearly blinded by rage, grabs a shard from one of the broken chairs in the theatre and brutally stakes Dorian with it, turning him to dust. Bobby races up to the balcony and claws and bites at Isabelle while Baston slashes at her with his sword. Isabelle attempts to use a wind spell to drive them back, but Bobby is the only one affected Banknote attempts to search LeCroix's body using the Apparatus' claws and takes his dagger and his cravat pin, which seems to have a magical stone in it, meanwhile, Philge steps forward and finishes Isabelle off with her hammer and stake.

Quotes[]

  • "You're shooting the device? I thought you wanted the device.." "Yea, but if I can't have it.."

Table Talk[]

  • "Now, I don't want to get in trouble with you, Hing. I've been trying to work this out in my head, and someone tell me if my thinking in my head is wrong or if my constant antagonism with Hing is making me read the rules unfairly, but here's what's happened. We have a missile launcher that, if it fires its second shot it explodes. Now, while there was an antimagic field in the room you tried to cast a spell that failed, and with the explosion of a miniature dying sun in your hands the missile launcher explodes doing the same damage of the attack that it just used, so three Dex saving throws for you.."
